What is a hackathon?A hackathon, also known as a codefest, is a social coding event that brings computer programmers and other interested people together to improve upon or build a new software program. The word hackathon is a portmanteau of the words hacker, which means clever programmer, and marathon, an event marked by endurance. The concept of the hackathon, also called a hack day or hack fest, was born out of the open source community. The first event labeled a hackathon was the OpenBSD Hackathon in Calgary, Canada, on June 4, 1999.Today, engineering departments, especially those at web-based companies, adopt the practice to introduce intrapreneurship into the enterprise. Hackathons are sometimes undertaken to achieve a specific goal, but often they are a chance for businesses to pursue employee-driven, out-of-the-box ideas in a low-risk environment. Employees are given the freedom and support to collaborate with colleagues in other departments within a given timeframe, and without the pressure of having to produce a viable product.Participants in modern hackathons not only concentrate on creating products and ideas, but also engage with sponsors, go to workshops, give presentations and speak with recruiters.#snsinstitutions#snsdesignthinkers#designthinking

Friends. It's time for our second hackathon! It will be starting on August 5th.We got some AWESOME feedback on the first one! Multiple people built some great things. Now it's time to up the game. Some changes from the first hackathon:1. We will do it over 14 days instead of 5. 5 just seemed a little too short to accomplish everything we wanted to do2. We are limiting the seat count (We don't believe we can truly serve an infinite number of people)3. We are adding a social media element. The most powerful thing you can do is build in the open, especially in our hyper connected world. So without further rambling, sign up for our hackathon here:https://lnkd.in/gW-sbxUnAs I said, seats are limited, so sign up soon!We are beyond excited to help you build your dream software in just 14 days!Rosson Long Sterling Long Kaitlin Pierce Dan S.

We specialize in hackathons, but we understand that not everyone has experienced the thrill of these innovation marathons. When some hear 'hackathon,' they might picture scenes from The Social Network or imagine computer hackers at work. Does that sound like you?🤔 Then dive into our latest blog post 'What is a hackathon' to discover what modern-day #hackathons are really about!💡🔗 https://lnkd.in/gDrZuaRB

🚀 Thrilled to share my journey through BIT HACK '23 - Software Edition, an exhilarating hackathon hosted by our college! 🖥✨🛠 Our team (Myself, Nithish Y E, Karthick M, Keerthana A ,Tanushmitha V N, Archaya R S ) embarked on the challenging path to the finals through a wildcard entry, choosing the Full Stack domain with the intriguing problem statement - "Ride Hailing Services." Inspired by our participation in the previous year's BITHACKS '22, we were motivated to push our boundaries and make it to the grand finale.📱💻 We devised an innovative solution - an Android application for users and a web application for administrators. The admin panel was meticulously crafted, overcoming hurdles and showcasing our dedication. However, we encountered a few showstoppers, particularly the need for APIs to propel the development of the user application.🎯 This hackathon was a transformative experience, providing valuable insights into the expectations of industry professionals. The dynamic nature of the competition pushed us to think on our feet, adapt swiftly, and deliver under pressure.🌐 The journey taught us the significance of collaboration, problem-solving, and resilience. It's not just about the code; it's about understanding real-world challenges and innovating solutions that can make a difference.📈 Grateful for the lessons learned, the connections made, and the enthusiasm for continuous improvement. Looking forward to applying these experiences in future endeavors!#hackathonexperience

< My First Hackathon />Stepping into my first hackathon in San Francisco, a wave of nerves hit me. Though I felt competent in my abilities, there was an underlying sensation of inadequacy that gnawed at me. As I scanned the busy room, the search for a team became my immediate mission. The energy was amazing, with excitement radiating from every eager hacker around. Throughout the event, the workshops proved invaluable, offering a large sum of knowledge. I was running on minimal sleep forcing my self not to shut my eyes and we were fueled by an array of snacks and dishes. It wasn’t just about the coding; it was also a cultural fest. I crossed paths with individuals from across the globe, each with their unique story and perspective.Amidst the intense coding and networking, the art presentations offered a serene oasis of creativity, capturing my admiration and awe. I managed to set up our project's MVC and frontend. Everyone played their part. And then, unexpected cherry on top: winning a small bounty for our efforts. As I departed, I realized I hadn't just gained coding experience but also memories of camaraderie, resilience, and triumph. My first hackathon wasn't just an event; it was a journey of self-discovery and collective achievement.#coding #hackathon #softwareengineering

❗ This is NOT an April Fool's joke! (No, seriously, it isn't! We need your help!)The T&S Hackathon, supported by the Australia eSafety Commissioner is seeking ✋✋ volunteer group facilitators for our April 22-24 virtual hackathon. We'll address the prompt “How can we evolve and increase adoption of Safety by Design?”Facilitators are a vital part of each hackathon. What do they do, you ask? - Facilitate discussion 🗣 - Encourage authentic sharing and creative thinking 💡 - Ensure all voices are heard 📣 - Keep the group on task and organized ✅ - Help the group decide how to collaborate 🤝 - Submit the group's work by the deadline 🗓 You do not need experience as a facilitator to apply! You must be dedicated to helping your group be organized and committed to submitting the group's work by the deadline. Please note the facilitator is not necessarily the person who will present the group's work (though you can be, if you and your group decide that's best). (So don't opt out of facilitating because you're not interested in being the presenter for your group 😊 )Learn more and apply to volunteer here -->> https://lnkd.in/gYsmJiqcLearn more about the hackathon here -->> https://lnkd.in/gUa4Tu4cQuestions?
